Model description
The Broom’s Barn sugar beet growth model is process-based and weather-driven so it can simulate total crop growth and sugar yield integrated at daily time intervals. The initial model with its original parameter specifications can accurately simulate the total dry matter production and sugar yields for crops grown on soils with available water contents up to 18% by volume at field capacity. With three adapted and calibrated parameter values, the model can simulate accurately the total crop growth and sugar yield for crops grown on soils with available water contents greater than 18% by volume at field capacity. This model can be easily implemented as a tool for decisionmaking and scientific research in sugar beet agriculture, but it still has no variety-specific parameters.
